Israel HealthTech Startup

In the first half of August 2021, an Israel healthtech startup, RealView Imaging, received the FDA 510(k) for its HOLOSCOPE-i holographic system, which provides realistic and spatially accurate 3D in-air holograms based on data received from standard CT scans and 3D ultrasound systems.

With the HOLOSCOPE-i holographic system, physicians can view and interact with the hyper-realistic 3D holograms of patients to decide interventional procedures before hitting the operation theatre. According to CEO and co-founder of RealView Imaging, Shaul Gelman, there is rapid development in the space of hyper-realistic 3D holograms of human anatomy, advancing medical imaging for physicians to plan minimally-invasive procedures, which earlier exclusively relied on imaging technologies.

In a press announcement, Shaul Gelman informs that the HOLOSCOPE-i renders next-generation interactive 3D visualization to empower imaging-based medical interventions. With this breakthrough technology, clinicians can intuitively understand the complex anatomy of a patient in a realistic and accessible way. Holding a 3D hologram of the heart for pre-operative CT and intra-procedure ultrasound allows surgeons to touch, locate, mark, slice or define a path for the intervention before committing the surgery.

Dr. Elchanan Bruckheimer, Cath Lab Director at Schneider Children’s Medical Center and Medical Director for RealView Imaging, says that using the holographic system, he can intuitively comprehend the dynamic spatial anatomical relationships of the cardiac valve leaflets. For Dr. Eckhouse, this incredible deep technology fuses science and fiction to support real-world clinical practice.

Now that the HOLOSCOPE™-i system has the FDA clearance, they are on the commercialization aspect of the HOLOSCOPE™-i system in North America. Over time, they will expand to more countries, significantly impacting the growing field of structural heart interventions and additional clinical fields that rely on advanced imaging to deliver better and faster medical care.

RealView’s HOLOSCOPE™-i system is poised to be an effective solution to structural heart interventions, as well as additional clinical fields which rely on advanced imaging to deliver better and faster medical care,” he added. Additionally, the Israel healthtech startup RealView Imaging is also working on HOLOSCOPE-x that can produce 3D holographic images from the inside of the human body as if surgeons can see through patients literally.

According to Polaris Market Research, the global medical holography market is anticipated to grow substantially to a valuation of USD 4.22 Billion by 2027 with a CAGR of 28.6% from 2020 to 2027. The increase in demand for holographic services by research labs, academic medical centers, hospitals, and educational institutes interests public-private investors to fuel the market growth.

Today, cases of chronic diseases are on the rise creating clinical urgency to better health tech with advanced health technology products such as non-invasive diagnosis and holography techniques. Besides medical requirements, the rising R&D activities by leading companies also boost the growth of this market.

Yokne’am Illit HaZafon based Israel healthtech startup RealView Imaging is the world’s first 3D holographic display and interface system, initially for medical imaging applications. On Jul 22, 2020, the company raised a Series C fund of $10M from OurCrowd, Zohar Gilon, Shimon Eckhouse, Kobi Richter, and two other investors. Previously, RealView Imaging raised a Series B fund of $10M from LongTec China Ventures.
